Five – Understanding Revelation, p. 167

June 19

When we really think about it… Scripture itself is the prophetic word of God. It is, quite literally, God speaking to humanity, expressing His thoughts, His ways, and His purposes, while revealing His Own character to us. The Bible provides an irreplaceable standard by which we might know truth, righteousness, and goodness. It provides us with our Creator’s view of things and presents us an invaluable picture of God, and of how He goes about doing things. Some traditions even refer to the Bible as the “Word of God.” This is a fairly accurate view. God has taken the time to insure that we can “hear” and “see” what He has desired to say to us through the centuries.

This is why true Christians seek out the wisdom and guidance of the Scriptures for their lives.

The Bible is God speaking to humanity in ways that cut right to our hearts, and transform our thinking. It is exactly as the apostle tells us: “All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17) And also: “The Word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)

The Scriptures are the divine revelation of our Creator, and of His ways, so that we might “see” Him, and know Him, as He really is.
